Douglas has been doing psychological counseling since 1978.  His formal education was at the University of British Columbia, Canada.  His training includes Couples, Family, and Individual (short and long term) therapy with adolescents and adults.  Douglas emigrated to Sydney Australia, in 1986.

Work background includes:  10 years in community psychiatry (including 4 years as a child, family, couples therapy specialist); 5 years part time with Relationships Australia; 5 years full time in a variety of community settings – including Mercy Family Life, St. George Area Health Service (Team Leader of Child and Family MH), Family Planning (Manager of the Counseling unit); a variety of EAP programmes/companies; contracted to Victims Services NSW, as a Specialist Counselor, from 1993-2017; External Counseling Provider to Vietnam Veterans Counseling Service for 10 years; and Private Practice, since 1993.

Douglas has always taken a Psychodynamic /Systemic approach to therapy/ counseling.  Lately, he has incorporated Relational Analysis and Emotional Focus therapy into his work.  Douglas is au fait with most models of counseling and draws from them, when suited to the client.  Douglas has a substantive knowledge of most medications utilized in the field of psychiatry.  

Douglas is a Medicare Provider and an AHPRA Board Approved Supervisor.
