If you are seeing a psychologist under the Better Access (Medicare) or ATAPS programs or are seeing a psychiatrist at the centre, you will need a referral from your GP. You are also welcome to self refer to the centre
Are services confidential?
The service you receive will be private and confidential within the limits of the law. It is important that you discuss any particular concerns that you may have with regard to such issues, with your therapist.
The experience of seeing a therapist for the first time will be different for each individual – some experience a sense of relief at the prospect of being able to talk to a professional person, others feel less alone with their difficulties, while some others may find it daunting or even threatening – particularly making that first contact. If you are uncertain, you may leave a message asking for your therapist (if you already have a name) or a therapist to call you, to discuss your situation. Feel free to ask questions before you come in, and definitely in your first consultation, so you know what to expect. Generally your first appointment offers you a better understanding of the process, the fee structure, a time-frame and a general understanding of how counselling/psychotherapy can help and that may be more specific to your issues. You may need or want a few sessions, or something longer term, and this also can be discussed one-to-one with your therapist.
Yes, all appointments are booked in advance. To make an appointment, you may either phone the practitioner of your choice directly, or leave a message on the practice number (02 – 9719-9298) and your call will be returned as soon as possible.
As your appointment is reserved for you, your therapist will not be in a position to easily re-book that space. We require 48 hours’ notice for all cancellations or a fee may be charged.
